★ Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What is the time frame for studying abroad?
    • It differs from university to university. I highly suggest getting in contact with the the study abroad office at your school and getting the name for the director in charge of the program you want to pursue as soon as possible. For example, the program I applied for clearly listed at April 15th deadline on the study abroad program website, however, I actually had to have my application turned in by the end of January. Thankfully I had already applied for the program back in December. My Japanese professor actually had to choose an applicant by the end of January and then had to contact Osaka University for an application .pdf. Afterwards, I was instructed to fill out the application and gather all the required recommendation forms, transcripts, etc. before the middle of March to send off to the university.
    • Again, each university is different, however, contacting the person in charge of the program you want to enter is highly advised. Try to talk with the director of the program ahead of time and even a semester before the program application comes out to ensure that you are going to have all the required paperwork on time.
  • How did you pay for studying abroad?
    • A combination of my own savings, my parents’ contribution, and a variety of other scholarships I could get my hands on. It is always more reassuring to have more than what is required than to have less.
  • What scholarships did you apply for?
